She was born December 3, 1916 in Posen to Peter and Mary (Wcisel) Smolinski.

Regina is survived by many nieces and nephews.

Larry Gene Ellenberger, 77, of Ocqueoc passed away June 1, 2013. He was born to George and Vivian (Strayer) Ellenberger in Onaway August 24, 1935. He was married to Louella (Wellesley) McClelland on February 9, 1991.

Larry is preceded in death by his brothers, Samuel and Edward Ellenberger; stepson, Craig McClelland; sister-in-law, Vivian Ellenberger; brother-in-law, Bill Roberts; and son-in-law, Greg Wiertalla. And is survived by his brother, Frederick Ellenberger; sister, Ella Roberts; and sisters-in-law, Beverly and Bethel Ellenberger. He is survived by his wife, Louella Ellenberger of Ocqueoc and her children Kathy (Ty) Turmell of Flint, Kevin (Linda) McClelland of Flushing, Robert (Annette) McClelland of Virginia, Minnesota, Timothy (Phyllis) McClelland of Interlochen and Dane (Angela) McClelland of Chesaning. He is also survived by his former wife and mother of his children, Lola (Schaedig) Ellenberger of Millersburg. He will be mourned by his children Carol (David) Badgero and Matthew Ellenberger of Onaway; LuAnn (Ronald Bingham) Forth of Taylor, Texas; Mark (Kathy) Ellenberger and Jeffrey (Susan) Ellenberger of Millersburg; and Tamara (Steve) Buckwheat of Alanson. His grandchildren across the country number 29 as well as many great-grandchildren.

Laura L. Reid, 83, of Onaway passed away Friday May 31, 2013 at Tendercare Health Center, Rogers City.

Surviving are five sons, Dale (Carol) Philpott of Bremerton, Washington, Rick (Pam) Philpott of St. Joseph, Bill (Lisa) Philpott of Mt. Airy, Maryland, David (Regina) Philpott of New Windsor, Maryland and Scott (Diane) Reid of Rogers City; four daughters, Sandi Ziegler of California, Ruth (Paul) Elowsky of Millersburg, Debra Moore of Grand Rapids and Kim (Bruce) Bigham of Virginia Beach, Virginia; two stepdaughters, Norma (J.R.) Braun of Kingston and Patricia Forbes of Caro; 31 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren; and two brothers, Harold (Dolly) Paulus of Onaway and Ken (Blanche) Paulus of Onaway.

Funeral service was Monday at Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Onaway. Final resting place is at Waverly Township Cemetery, Onaway.

Herman Martin Muller Jr., 83, of Crossville, Tennessee, formerly of Rogers City, passed away Wednesday, May 29, 2013.

Herman was born January 5, 1930 in Round Prairie Township, Iowa to Herman and Louise (Martinas) Muller.Herman served in the United States Army during the Korean War.

Mr. Muller is survived by his wife, Renee of Crossville; daughter, Rita (Chris) Nafziger of Leawood, Kansas; two sons, Eric (JoAnne) and Kevin both of Rogers City; stepson, Brandon (Brenna) Kania Bradenton, Florida; two stepdaughters, Brooke Resendez Bradenton, Florida and Nicole (Andy) Peacock of Rogers City; sister, Diana Hood of Iowa; 12 grandchildren; and many great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his second wife, Judy; son, Sonny; daughter, Marilyn Kinnunen.

William ‘Billy’ Compton

William “Billy” Compton, 63, of Presque Isle passed away Tuesday, June 11, 2013 at Alpena Regional Medical Center.

The son of Ralph and Noveta (Stockman) was born on March 20, 1950 in Atlanta, Georgia.  After graduating he entered the United States Navy during the Vietnam War.  When his duties were finished, he returned to the Atlanta area where he worked and retired from Laramie Tire as a warehouse manager.

Surviving are his wife, Sharon Jacobs; a son, Jon Jacobs; two daughters, Sonia (Chase) Champagne and Christine delaRosa; two sisters, Benita Thompson and Mona (Charlie) O’Neal all of Atlanta, Georgia; two brothers-in-law, Bill and Dennis Fay of Presque Isle; eight grandchildren Nicholas, Ryan, Dominic, JonMarie, Tony, Austie, Erin and Livi; and one niece, Tammy.

Memorials are suggested to the Huron Humane Society or Grand Lake Community Chapel.

Doris Jean Sorget, 84, of Rogers City passed away June 14, 2013 at home.

She was born March 27, 1929 in Millersburg to Harold and Pearl (Heath) Henke.

Doris is survived by two granddaughters, Billie Jo Eineder and Rebecca Lynn Eineder; two sisters, Barbara Wolter and Gertrude Beaushaw; and good friends, Norm and Janet Baker.

Beverly Jane LaForest, 84, of Tower passed away June 16, 2013 at Bay Bluffs Medical Care Facility in Harbor Springs. Beverly was born July 1, 1928 in Webster, South Dakota to Rudolph and Rosina (Becht) Kaplan.

Bev was preceeded in death by her husband Joe in 1987; parents; sons John and Tony; and siblings Quentin Kaplan and Georgia Stover. She is survived by her children Joseph R. LaForest of Gaylord, Mark (Julia) LaForest of Louisiana, Mike (Tony) LaForest of Wisconsin, Patti (Tom) Swiss of Harbor Springs, Andy (Sara) LaForest of California and Jim (Alex) LaForest of London, United Kingdom; grandchildren Joseph S. (Lindee) LaForest, Eric (Toni) LaForest, Matt (Anna) LaForest, Devereux (LaToya) LaForest, Marguette LaForest, Mark (Heather) Bishop, Patrick Berryer, Arianne Berryer and Christopher LaForest; and six great-grandchildren.

The family suggests that memorial donations be made to Bay Bluffs, Hospice of Little Traverse Bay or the Alzheimer’s Association.

Robert ‘Bob Glen Crooks

Robert “Bob” Glen Crooks passed away May 13, 2013. Bob was 85 years old and passed away peacefully in his sleep at home in San Antonio, Texas. Bob’s wife Erma and his daughter Linda were at his side and read the Psalms 23 to him as he went home.

Bob is survived by his wife of 60 years, Erma (Arkwood) Crooks; his daughter, Linda Stubblefied; and three sons, Roger (Janice) of Kansas, Jesse (Diane) of Minnesota and Jerry Crooks of California; four brothers, George Crooks (Betty) of San Antonio, David, Ron and Kevin; a sister, Barbara of Michigan; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends.

His ashes will be put into the Gulf of Mexico in Texas where he loved to put his feet in the water and relax. May he rest in peace.

Robert Charles Bellmore

Robert Charles Bellmore, 80, of Rogers Township died Thursday June 20, 2013 at home surrounded by his loving family.

The son of Charles and Clara (Siecinski) was born September 17, 1932 in Rogers City.  His mother passed away at his tender age of 8 years old, later he had gained a stepmother, Sally whom he had loved dearly.

Robert and Fern Blair were married November 24, 1951 at St. Ignatius Catholic Church where he was a member. Bob was proud to let others know that he and his family had five generations attend St. Ignatius Catholic School. Bob retired from Alpena Paving after 30 years of service and paved every road in Alpena and Presque Isle counties.

Bob bowled and played softball in his younger years but soon found that fishing and hunting were his true passion and building a hunting camp in 1976. His true loves were his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, stepmother and his wife Fern.

He is survived by his children, Clara (Mitchell) Budnik of Posen, Mark (Gail) of Wolverine, Judy (Alan) Meyer of Rogers City, Debbie (Dennis) Chew of Boyne City and Tom (Lisa) of Rogers City; 13 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Blanche (Norman) Buczkowski of Rogers City and Patsy (Norval) Koss of Posen; two brothers, Tony (Beverly) Bellmore of New Jersey and James Bellmore of Georgia; and many nieces and nephews.

Robert was at the Brietzke Funeral Home where friends called Sunday, a parish rosary was recited followed by a prayer service with Dr. Jerome Green. Visitation resumed Monday at the funeral home until the Mass of Christian Burial at St. Ignatius Catholic Church with the Rev. Arthur Duchnowicz officiating.  Burial was at Mt. Calvary Cemetery.

Memorials may be made in memory of Robert C. Bellmore to St. Ignatius Catholic School or Church and Hospice of the Sunrise Shore.

Larry Michael Emke formerly of Posen passed away May 31, 2013 after a lengthy illness.

Larry was born February 25, 1943 to Alice and Elmer Emke in Highland Park.

He is survived by three daughters, Melissa Emke of Rogers City, Stephanie Cassino and Nathalie Emke Vogelheim all of North Carolina; a son, Chad Emke of North Carolina; four grandsons, Austin Emke of Rogers City, Jared Vogelheim, Cyle Emke and Cole Emke all of North Carolina; a granddaughter, Brittany Vogelheim of North Carolina; two sisters, Diane Allen of Arizona and Darlene Timmons of California; and many aunts, uncles and cousins from Michigan.… Read Full Story

Lillian G. Smith, 89, of Rogers City, passed away June 20, 2013 at Tendercare Health Center in Rogers City.

She was born August 16, 1923 in Krakow Township to Walter and Josephine (Kuznicki) Chrzan.

Mrs. Smith is survived by her husband, Joseph; three children, Donald (Jacqui) Smith of Rogers City, Gerald (Melody) Smith of Harbor Beach and Mary (Joseph) Holzer of Fenton; 10 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; four siblings, Floyd, Adolph (Eva) Chrzan, Eugene (Windy) Chrzan and Irene (Lloyd) Donajkowski all of Alpena; and sister-in-law, Katherine Chrzan of Dearborn Heights.

Interment took place at Mt. Calvary Catholic Cemetery.

Helen M. Strobel

Helen M. Strobel, 93, of Onaway, formerly of Lincoln Park, died Monday June 24, 2013 at Tendercare in Tawas City.

Born May 24, 1920 in Millersburg, Helen was the daughter of James and Grace (Sawtell) Loomis. She married Leonard Strobel in Ohio in 1939.

Surviving Helen are her four sons, Rodney (Barb) and Teal Strobel, both of Oscoda, Gary (Sharon) Strobel of Lincoln Park and Paul (Janice) Strobel of Warren.  She also leaves 12 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren. Helen was preceded in death by her husband, Leonard (1974); her sister, Fern; and daughter-in-law, Patricia Strobel.

William A. St. Germain

William A. St. Germain “Chief”, 87, of Black Lake (Cheboygan) died at home Monday June 24, 2013.  The son of John J. and Lucille M. (Corrow) St. Germain, Bill was born in L’Anse  June 5, 1926.

Surviving Bill is his wife of more than 28 years, Dorothea St. Germain of Black Lake (Cheboygan); daughters, Sandra Rapson and Tina (Ron) Lemuel, both of Bay City; stepdaughter, Sandra Butler of Allentown, Pennsylvania; and stepson, Barry Fisher of Marion, Indiana; as well as, nine grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandson. Bill was preceded in death by his son, Robert St. Germain in 2011; and 12 brothers and sisters.

Cremation arrangements were in care of the Chagnon Funeral Home. A gathering to pay tribute to Bill’s life will be held at Stoney Creek Restaurant Saturday July 13, 2013 from 2 – 4 p.m.

Christopher F. Lively, 41, of Onaway, died at home Friday June 28, 2013. The son of Gary L. and Terrie A. (Richter) Lively, Chris was born January 1, 1972 in Freeland. He married Tara R. McKenzie at Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Onaway September 30, 2000.

Surviving is Christopher’s wife of almost 13 years, Tara Lively of Onaway; three daughters, Tyler Means (Justin Ross) and Taylor Lively (Scott Madison), both of Saginaw, and Jaidyn Lively of Onaway; a stepson, Darek Dennis of Kentucky; two grandsons, Scott and Richard; a sister, Candie (Anthony) Lively-Stone of Onaway; his mother-in-law, Bonnie Kinnard of Onaway; and three nieces and two nephews.  Chris was preceded in death by his father Gary Lively and stepfather, John Porter.

Julie Ann Pfalzer, 41, of Posen, passed away peacefully at home following a courageous battle with cancer. She joined her son Dougie in Heaven on July 8, 2013.

She was born October 5, 1971 in Redford.

Julie was a loving and devoted mother to her three daughters, Samantha, Myranda and Marissa; her pride and joy, granddaughter, Sydney; she is also survived by her parents, Lis (Chuck) Poznanski and Donn Pfalzer; brother, Kenn (Siiri) Pfalzer; sister, Christi (Ron) Rechlin; grandmothers, Jetty Baartmans and June Pfalzer;and  niece and nephews, Maddie, Mac and Jake.

Grace W. Claus, 99, died peacefully Tuesday (July 2, 2013) at Rogers City Tendercare with her loving family around her.

The daughter of Herman and Dorothea (Bruder) Schlager was born August 23, 1913 in Rogers City where she graduated high school in 1932.

Grace is survived by her husband, Elmer of 65 years; a daughter, Doreen (Ralph) Glomski of Burton; daughter-in-law, Lorraine Claus of Rogers City; three grandchildren, Paula (Dennis) Gallien of New Hampshire, Brian (Alva) Claus of Rogers City and Joel (Nicole) Glomski of Burton; five great-grandchildren, Jessica (Matt) Peacock, Jeremy Claus, Kyle Gallien, and Lauren and Logan Glomski; and many nieces and nephews.

Donna M. (Grisdale) Milliman died Friday, July 5, 2013, after a long and courageous battle with Parkinson’s disease. She was born January 26, 1929 to Arthur and Gertrude (Davis) Grisdale in Mt. Pleasant, the seventh of 11 children.

She is survived by Dick, her devoted husband of 57 years; children, Teresa (David) Brandell of Lansing, Dirk (Penny) Milliman of Haslett and Ann Marie (Mike) Epstein of Lansing; nine grandchildren; and a great-grandson.
