Joseph C. Schaudt

Joseph C. Schaudt, 54, of Tiskilwa, Illinois passed away May 30, 2013 at St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria, Illinois. He was born February 5, 1959 to Paul and Nora Jean (Huber) Schaudt in Harper Woods. He was a 1977  graduate of Rogers City High School.

Surviving are a daughter, Shelby Schaudt of Princeton, Illinois; four sisters, Jean (Tony) Javier of Silver Springs, Nevada, Luise (Chick) Abbey of Rogers City, Kimberly (Nai) Shaudt of Tucson, Arizona and Renee (Rick) Webster of Belmont; and many nieces and nephews.

Memorial service was held June 22 at West Park in Tiskilwa. Funeral arrangements were by Grant-Johnson Funeral Home, Princeton.

 


Neil Francis Wing Sr.

Neil Francis Wing Sr., 92, of Afton, died Tuesday July 16, 2013 at Bortz Health Care of Petoskey.

The son of Elmer J. and Sophia (Trudeau) Wing, Neil was born June 24, 1921 in Cheboygan.

Neil is survived by his sons Neil F. Wing Jr. of Afton and John (Karen) Wing of Howell; daughters, Denise Roberson of Canton and Doreen Hotsinpiller of Afton; as well as his brother, Ira Wing of Farmington.

He also leaves behind six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.  Neil was a wonderful role model and a positive influence to his grandchildren who were so special to him.

Gary Lee Sayers, 68, of Afton passed away Saturday, July 13, 2013 at McLaren Northern Michigan hospital in Petoskey. Gary, the son of Benjamin and Yvonne (Caton) Sayers, was born in Petoskey March 11, 1945.

He leaves behind his wife of 46 years, Lydia Jean Sayers of Afton; son, Jamie Lee Sayers of Afton; daughters, Terri Lynn Gawlinski of Las Vegas, Nevada, Bonnie Lou (Austin) Hancock of Afton and Laurie Sayers of Onaway. A papa to 11 grandchildren, Gary will be so missed by Chance Lee, Brooke Joslin and Laken Drew Gawlinski; Tyler Michael, Cody James and Brandon Lee Sayers Wolgast; Hunter Lee, Ryan Cole and Logan Roy Hancock; and Corey Lee and Jessie James Sayers. Gary was a loving uncle to his many cherished nieces and nephews and great-nieces and nephews and a loving brother to surviving sisters, Marion “Mary” Sayers of Indian River and Marylyn Turgiano of Wolverine; as well as his brother-in-law, Ron Neadow of Afton.

Cheryl Sue Sullivan, “Meme,” 69, of Petoskey, formerly of Onaway, died at home Tuesday, July 16, 2013. The daughter of Newton William Sr. and Helen “Jean” (Fitzpatrick) Chapman, Cheryl was born in Onaway April 16, 1944. Cheryl was a 1962 graduate of Onaway High School.

Cheryl leaves behind her son, Tony (Jennifer) Fedynik of Petoskey; daughter, Sandra (Keith) Rose of Petoskey; five grandchildren, Casey Jo of Gaylord, MaKayla, Paul, Nicholas and Madison, all of Petoskey; and former husband, William Sullivan of Wayne. Also surviving are three sisters, Eva (Terry) Taffe of Onaway, Connie (Jerry) Pilarski of Grand Lake and Cathie (John) Foeller of Black Lake; brothers, Nute (Patricia), Clark, Cal (Denise) and Mark (Cathy) Chapman, all of Onaway and Chad and Michael “Mick” (Cheryl) Chapman, both of Millersburg; half sisters, Arlene Crawford, Joann Wright and Cari Jean Carinduff; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Preceding Cheryl in death were her parents; son, Jerry Ray Fedynik; and brother, Charles Chapman.

Robert D. Miller, 74, of Onaway, died at home Wednesday, July 17, 2013. The son of Edward E. and Loretta B. (Tucker) Miller, Bob was born December 11, 1938 in Flint.

Surviving are Bob’s four daughters, Mishelle (Donald) Wesanen of Johannesburg, Kammie (David) Dennis of Onaway, Stacey Miller of Tower and Shannon (Erik) Badgero of Holland; three sons, Michael (Ann) Miller of New Mexico, Christopher (Sabrina) Miller of Onaway and Daniel (Jessica) Miller of Arizona; as well as 36 grandchildren and many great-grandchildren. He also leaves behind his sister, Leona “Onie”(Douglas) Reedy of Columbiaville; his former wife and the mother of his children, Janice Williams of Holland; and many nieces and nephews.

Cremation arrangements were in care of the Chagnon Funeral Home. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, July 28, 2013 at the Onaway Seventh Day Adventist Church. Kevin David McClelland, 57, of Flushing, passed away July 16, 2013 at home. Kevin was born May 18, 1956 in Flint, the son of Louella (Wellesley) Ellenberger and Robert McClelland. He married Linda “Lynn” McGraw on July 26, 1975 and he leaves her to cherish his memory after 38 years of marriage.

Also surviving are his parents, Louella Ellenberger, and Robert and Joyce McClelland; a sister, Kathy (Ty) Turmell; three brothers, Rob (Annette) McClelland, Tim McClelland and Dane (Angie) McClelland; many stepbrothers, stepsisters, nieces and nephews; longtime friend, Patrick Lehr and wife, Shan; and his loving canine companions, Petey and Max. He was preceded in death by his brother, Craig McClelland; and nephew, Ryan McClelland.

Andrew R. Getzinger, 10, went home to be with his Heavenly Father on Wednesday, July 24, 2013, following an all-terrain vehicle accident at his “Up-North” home near Rogers City.

Andrew was a fun-loving and entertaining young man. He loved the color blue, his PS3, his video games, Pokemon, dancing, singing, telling jokes, swimming in Lake Huron, peanut butter and jam sandwiches, roasting marshmallows and going out to the Buck and Fur Hunting Camp with his dad. Warm chocolate chip cookies were his favorite treat.

He is survived by his loving parents, Drs. Jef and Kim Getzinger; sisters, Ally and Ann Beth; grandparents, Art and Beth Getzinger and Anita Riopelle; and great-grandmother, Lucille Kress. Andrew loved his uncles and aunts. They include uncles Jon (Bonnie), Jac (Monique), Jim, Jere (Gail) and David Getzinger; aunts Jyl (Lou) Messina, Diane (Mike) Wilson and Kathy (Dave) DeGregory and his cousins include Jade, Jacob, Jory, Janae, Jay, Jac Jr., Elizabeth, Olivia, Jere Jr., Abby, Jennifer, Ryan, Justin, Lindsey, Gabriella and Mia.

Preceding him into Heaven was his grandfather, Ronald Kress and his Uncle Jay.

His memorial service was conducted at Trinity Lutheran Church in Utica on Saturday.

His earthly body will live on in so many others as his family chose the Gift of Life Michigan Program.

Justin Anthony Woloszyk, 85, of Long Rapids Township passed away peacefully August 2, 2013 at Back Home AFC Home in Lachine.

He was born May 30, 1928 in Posen to Anthony and Blandina (Grzenkowicz) Woloszyk.

Justin is survived by 10 children, Carolyn (Stanley) Antkowiak, Joanne (Gerald) Kroll, Roger (Lydia) Woloszyk, Marlene (Daniel) Smolinski, Lynn (David) Helinski, Sandra (James) Black, Paula (Brian) King, Allen (Gloria) Woloszyk, Dawn (Aaron) Hamp and Kelli Woloszyk; 38 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; five sisters, Lucy Taratuta, Theresa (Ed) Krzesowiak, Henrietta (Louis) Konieczny, Georgianna (Bill) Haske and Marcella (Bob) Idalski; and two brothers, James Woloszyk and Norbert (Agnes) Woloszyk.

Burial took place next to his beloved Daisy, at St. Casimir Catholic Cemetery.

Melvin K. Brege, 82 of Belknap, passed away at home on July 30, 2013.

He was born April 6, 1931 in Belknap to John and Helen (Hardies) Brege.

Mr. Brege is survived by his wife, Dorothy; three children, James (Suzette) Brege of Traverse City, Mary (Fred) Schneider of Cape Cod and Timothy (Kimberly) Brege of Cummins; 10 grandchildren, Jameson Brege, Sara (Randy) Davey, Jonathon Brege, Chad (Jaime) Baptiste, Ryan (Ashley) Baptiste, Andrew and Susan Brege, Heather (Josh) Morgan, Linda Wainright and Mystery Wainright; nine great-grandchildren, Jordon, Brian, Alexxandria and Luvena Davey, Laila and Aubrie Baptiste, Alexis and Brandon Baptiste, and Madison Morgan; a brother, Earl Brege of Belknap; a sister, Mildred Laurie of Zephyrhills, Florida; and many nieces, nephews and friends.

Visitation was at St. Michael Lutheran Church in Belknap Friday with a prayer service at 7 p.m. Visitation continued at church Saturday through time of funeral with the Rev. Keith Schneider officiating. Rogers City Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 607 accored military honors immediately following.

Frances Charlotte “Toots” Kowalski

Frances Charlotte “Toots” Kowalski, 64, of Plymouth passed away unexpectedly Sunday, August 4, 2013 in Novi.

She was born July 10, 1949, in Alpena, daughter of the late Louis R. and Irene E. (Kwapiszewski) Kowalski.

Frances is survived by her daughter, Tisha (Tom) Walker of Farmington Hills and their children Sarah and Jacob; son, William (Lisa) Lintz III of Arkansas and their daughter Julia; son-in-law, Jimmy Smith of Indiana and his daughter Phoebe; and grandson, Anthony Guttersohn.  Also surviving are three siblings, Carol (Julian) Mulka of Posen, Elona (Roger) Wirgau of Sterling Heights and Matthew (Sally) Kowalski of New York; and many nieces, nephews, and friends.

Her funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, August 10 at Schrader-Howell Funeral Home, 280 S. Main St., Plymouth.  The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday from 6-9 p.m. and Saturday from 9 a.m. until the service begins.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.

Ernest Centala, 92, of Posen Township passed away August 5, 2013 at home.

He was born February 2, 1921 in Posen to Szczepan and Paulinia (Woswiak) Centala.

He is survived by two children, Geraldine (Thomas) Sliter of Auburn Hills and Norman Centala of Posen; two grandchildren, Michelle (Tim) Bishop and Laurie (Matt) Felton; six great-grandchildren; Jenna, Ryan, Sydney, Jacob, Josh and Alex; and a sister, Regina.

Friends may visit at the Beck Funeral Home today (Thursday) from 3 until 8 p.m. with the parish prayer service at 7 p.m. Visitation will resume Friday at St. Dominic Catholic Church in Metz from 10 a.m. through time of Mass at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Arthur Duchnowicz officiating.

Interment will take place at St. Casimir Catholic Cemetery in Posen.

Sam Mitteer, 72, was born in Onaway June 19, 1941. He passed away at home Friday, August 2. 2013. His parents were Sam Mitteer Sr. and Luella Middaugh.

Sam had 11 grandchildren, Stacy, Farlene, David Michael, Karek, Dakota, Jessica, Weston, Garret, Ashley, Evert and Mia. He also had six great-grandchildren.  His other “children” were his animals, Dobie, Lucky, Jasper, and his cat, Rabbit. He dearly loved all of them and spoiled each one. He has one brother, Mike Marshall ,and three living sisters, Audrey (Ken) Burrows, Evelyn (Terry) Young and Margaret Faircloth.

His family also extended to Ginger’s family, who loved him. He is survived by two sisters-in-law, Nancy (Phil) and Cyndie (Tony); two brothers-in-law, Bill (Shirley) and Jim (Vicki); numerous nieces and nephews on both sides of his family; as well as many close friends in Michigan and Texas. He was preceded in death by his father, Samuel Mitteer Sr.; his mother, Luella (Middaugh) Marshall; two sisters, Diana Mitteer and Judy Lyons; and a brother, Marvin Middaugh.

Jack C. Tennant Sr.

Jack C. Tennant Sr., 76, of Onaway and Midland, lost his 18-year battle with cancer Tuesday, August 6, 2013. The son of Herbert and Fern (Burnell) Tennant, Jack was born September 21, 1936 at Hackett Lake in Allis Township.

Surviving Jack are his wife of 37 years, Faye Tennant of Onaway and Midland; two daughters, Jackie Tennant of Texas and Brenda (Kevin) Steelsmith of Crawfordsville, Indiana; two sons, Jack Tennant Jr. of Gladwin and Tony Tennant of Maine; two stepsons, Dennis Weldon of Missouri and Tim Weldon of Midland; a stepdaughter, Kathy (William) Stoneburner of Alma; as well as 12 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. Jack also leaves behind his sister, Rosabel Cowles of Onaway; a brother, George Tennant of the Upper Peninsula; many nieces and nephews; and his traveling buddy, his dog, “Lil’ Joe.”

Florence Helen Harding

Florence Helen Harding, 69, of Onaway, died Thursday, August 1, 2013 at The Hospice House in Cheboygan.

She is survived by her son, Bob Lee of Canton; a grandson; two great-grandchildren; a sister, Laura; a sister-in-law, Rosella; and a cousin.

A memorial service will be conducted today (Friday) at 1 p.m. at the Chagnon Funeral Home in Onaway. The Rev. Denver DeKeyser will officiate. Florence’s final resting place will be at the Forest Lawn Cemetery in Saginaw.
