Megan Rya Dombrouski

Megan Raya Dombrouski, 37, of Indian River fought her final battle against the war of Epithelioid Sarcoma Cancer Tuesday, February 4, 2014 at home in the arms of her mother, father and surrounded by family members.

Megan was born October 15, 1976, daughter of Ronald and Cynthia (Dombrouski) Sischo. She attended Freesoil Community School while living in Mason County and then moved to Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, where she graduated from Myrtle Beach High School.

Megan is survived by her parents, Ronald and Cynthia Sischo of Indian River; grandmother, Dolores Dombrouski and David Riley of Onaway; grandfather, Robert Dombrouski and Bernice Kurtz of Fountain; great-grandfather, Wayne DuRocher of Freesoil; aunts, Jackie Johnson of Fountain and Tina Dombrouski of Freesoil; three great-aunts and uncles, Bonnie and Ronald Rathbun of Scottville, Theresa and Bill Misze of Midland, and Rose and Walt Lardner of Columbia, South Carolina; great-aunt; Marcella Klukowski of Grand Rapids; two great-uncles, Phillip Ruschkewicz of Ludington and Richard Dombrouski of Irons; cousins, Jody Carlson and Stacy Wood both of Scottville, Brian and Bradley Larr both of Custer and Jessica Lawson of Cascade, Colorado; soulmate, Sgt. Maj. Mark R. Frye of El Paso, Texas; and her cat, Chloe, the cutest kitten in the world.

A funeral Mass from the Order of Christian Funerals will be celebrated Saturday, February 22, 2014 at Cross of the Woods National Shrine Church in Indian River with the Rev. Mike Haney officiating. The family will receive friends for visitation Friday, February 21, at the church from 6 to 8 p.m. and again on Saturday at the church from 10 a.m. until time of funeral mass.

A funeral Mass from the Order of Christian Funerals with military honors will be celebrated Saturday, March 1, 2014 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Custer with the Rev. Anton Tran officiating. The family will receive friends for visitation Friday, February 28, 2014 at Oak Grove Funeral Home in Ludington from 6 to 8 p.m. and again on Saturday at the church from 10 a.m. until time of funeral Mass.

Memorial contributions in memory of Megan may be directed to the Dombrouski family for a memorial within the Veterans’ Hospital Administration that will be established at a later date. Mildred Grace Leach

Mildred Grace Leach, “Millie”, 90, of Millersburg, died at home Thursday, February 13, 2014.  Visitation was held at the Chagnon Funeral Home in Onaway Friday, February 14.  Millie’s funeral service was held at the Millersburg Methodist Church February 15, with burial at Riverside Cemetery in Millersburg. The Rev. Josh Blanchard officiated with close friend of the family, Chad Chapman, having a part in the service as well.

Born at home in Ocqueoc Township on November 23, 1923, Millie was the daughter of Bernard and Henrietta “Etta” (Walker) Fitch.

Surviving Millie are her four daughters, Carol Arnold of Millersburg, Kathy Merchant of Onaway, Triena (Jack) Rokos of Traverse City and Tammy (Jim) Bischoff of Wolverine; six sons, Larry (Lynne) and Rod (Lynda) of Onaway, Edward (Delaine) and Dale (Donna) of Millersburg, David (Marcia) of Rogers City and Jeffrey (Jacqueline) of Ellicott City, Maryland.  She also leaves 32 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; and several great-great-grandchildren.

Jean Marie Kinnard

Jean Marie Kinnard, “Bonnie”, 74, of Onaway died Friday, February 14, 2014 at McLaren Northern Michigan hospital in Petoskey. The daughter of Benjamin and Anne (Sobas) Kinnard, Jean was born in Cleveland, Ohio April 9, 1939.

Surviving Bonnie are her daughters, Tina Szczesniak of Sturgeon Bay, Wisconsin, Renee (Dave) Havel of Onaway, Kateri (Bill) McKenzie-Stiles of Tower, Kelly Blaskowski of Cheboygan and Tara Lively of Onaway; a son, John (Misty) McKenzie of Onaway; 15 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and her companion, Fred Garms of Onaway. She also leaves her sister, Shirl Hetu of Westland; and brother, Dennis Karas of Southfield.

Cremation arrangements were in care of the Chagnon Funeral Home. A graveside service will be held in the spring. Thomas Leroy Hitchcock

Thomas Leroy Hitchcock, 51, of Onaway, died at home, with his family at his bedside Saturday, February 15, 2014.

The son of Reginald and Fern (Freel) Hitchcock, Tom was born on November 24, 1962 in Rogers City.

Surviving Tom are his wife of more than 27 years, Kitty Hitchcock; sons, Thomas R. and Mark A. Hitchcock; parents, Reginald and Fern Hitchcock, all of Onaway; a sister, Kim (Ernie) Riley of Cheboygan; and  many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws and friends.

Visitation was held at the Chagnon Funeral Home Tuesday, February 18, 2014.

The funeral service was Wednesday, February 19, 2014 at the Ocqueoc Baptist Church.

The Rev. Denver DeKeyser officiated. Tom’s final resting place will be at Hillcrest Cemetery in Onaway. Donations to honor Tom’s memory should be made to his family or to Hospice of Michigan.

Nancy R. Keeley

Nancy R. Keeley, 81, of Onaway, died at home Sunday, February 16, 2014. Born December 9, 1932 in Delphos, Ohio, Nancy was the daughter of Ira F. and Mary (Reinemeyer) Meekins. She married William Keeley September 22, 1951 at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in River Rouge. They made their home in southern Michigan, moving from Trenton to Onaway in 1971.

Surviving Nancy are her three daughters, Denise (David) Badder of Pahrump, Nevada, Mary Larson and Karen (Dan) Sachs of Onaway; two sons, Bill (Doreen) Keeley of Gaylord and Daniel Keeley of West Palm Beach, Florida; 10 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. She also leaves her sister, Mary Alice “Cookie” (Lenny) Kudela of Lincoln Park; and two brothers, Michael Meekins of Lincoln Park and Thomas (Janet) Meekins of Livonia.

As were Nancy’s wishes, there will not be any services and cremation has taken place. Nancy’s final resting place will be in Tower at Forest Lawn Cemetery.

Donations to honor the memory of Nancy Keeley should be made to Hospice of Little Traverse Bay or to the Forest Waverly Fire Association, c/o Chris Larson, 6275 Brenda Lane, Onaway, MI 49765.

Ivan L. Paul, 75, died February 8, 2014. Paul was the loving husband of the late Mary H. Paul (nee Harrison). Beloved father of Susan Schneider and Cathy (Paul) Niehaus. Dear grandfather of Lauren Schneider and Tony Schneider. Dear friend of Barbara Diehl. Brother of Stanley (LaVeme), Beatrice (the late Charlie), Ken (Lisa), Nancy (Red) and Doris.

Memorial Mass of Christian Burial was held Thursday, February 13, at St. Ann Church, Cincinnati, Ohio. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Cincinnati or to charity of donor’s choice.

The family is planning a Memorial Mass in Rogers City this summer.

Milo Kenneth Karsten, 63, of Grand Ledge, formerly of Moltke Township, passed away at home February 18, 2014. He was born March 13, 1950 in Rogers City to Harold and Isabel (Schaedig) Karsten.  Milo is survived by his brother, Ralph (Donna) Karsten of Moltke Township; sister-in-law, Ann Karsten of Moltke Township; and many nieces and nephews.

Elroy E. Dietrich, 85, of Genoa, Ohio, died Tuesday evening, February 18, 2014, at Mercy-St. Charles Hospital, Oregon, Ohio. Elroy was born December 3, 1928, in Cedarburg, Wisconsin, to Paul F. and Loretta (Pantzlaff) Dietrich.

In addition to his wife, Joan, Elroy is survived by his son, Carl A. (Sharon) Dietrich of Genoa; a daughter, Krista K. Dietrich (Timothy Luetzow) of Washington; a granddaughter, Casie Dietrich; and a sister, Arleen Wetzel of Mequon, Wisconsin. He is also survived by step-granddaughters, Rachel Volschow of Genoa, Ohio, and Grant and Madison, as well as Kerrie (Victorino) Sanchez-Rodriguez and Madilyn of Georgia. His parents preceded him in death.

Visitation for Elroy was Friday, February 21, at Robinson-Walker Funeral Home & Crematory, 501 West St., Genoa.  A memorial service was held at Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church, Elmore, Saturday, February 22, with burial to take place in Michigan. In lieu of flowers, the family has suggested memorials to Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church, 19255 W. Glenna Dale Campbell, 81, of Millersburg, passed away at home Wednesday, February 26, 2014.

She was born September 13, 1932 in Dexter, Missouri to Arthur and Mabel (Van Bibber) Looney. Glenna is survived by her husband of 48 years, James; a son, David Robert (Pam) Franklin of Flint; a daughter, Betty Ann (Frank) Van Slyke of Silver Springs, Florida; six grandchildren; a great-granddaughter; a sister, Bonnie Jean Edwards of Flint; a brother, John A. (Shirley) Looney of Grand Blanc.

She was preceded in death by three children; Timothy Thompson age 17 months, Diane Thompson age 8 months, and Michael Franklin age 7 years.

Leonard Otto Schaedig, 84, of Rogers City, passed away at Rogers City Tendercare on March 3, 2014.

He was born April 29, 1929 in Moltke Township to August and Anna (Roeske) Schaedig.

Mr. Schaedig is survived by his wife, Barbara; three children, Kimberly (Robin) Wing of Romeo, Timothy (Carla) Schaedig of Marquette and Jeffery (Kris) Schaedig of Rochester; seven grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren; a brother, Howard (Katie) Schaedig; and a sister, Lillian (Wilbert) Keinath.

Visitation was at the Beck Funeral Home Wednesday from 4 until 8 p.m. with a prayer service at 6 p.m. Visitation will resume today (Thursday) at Peace Lutheran Church from 10 a.m. through time of service at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Derek Riddle officiating. Rogers City Veterans of Foreign Wars will offer a military tribute immediately following church services.

Inurnment will take place at Peace Lutheran Cemetery at a later date. Memorials may be made to Peace Lutheran Church, Hospice of the Sunrise Shore or a charity of friend’s choice.

Rodney A. Lambert, 61, of St. Ignace, formerly of Onaway, died Sunday, February 23, 2014 at McLaren Northern Michigan hospital in Petoskey. The son of Joseph and Helen M. (Kosequat) Lambert, Rodney was born in Manistique November 6, 1952.

Rodney is survived by two sons, Thomas and Mark Lambert, both of Fort Worth, Texas; and two daughters, Jennifer Lacy of Brutus and Stacy DeKeyser of St. Ignace.

Cremation arrangements are in care of the Chagnon Funeral Home.  Rodney’s final resting place will be in Onaway at St. Paul Catholic Cemetery. Donations to honor his memory should be given to St. Paul Catholic Church Bell Tower Restoration Fund.

Roberta Eve Leslie

Roberta Eve Leslie, 76, passed away March 1, 2014 at South Baldwin Hospital in Foley, Alabama.

She was born in Bournemouth, England to Walter and Evelyn Toms November 25, 1937.

Bobbie is survived by her husband, Bob of Fairhope, Alabama; her children, Mitch Leslie of Traverse City and Carole Phillipsen of Fairhope; her sister, Pamela Neumann of Cheboygan; grandchildren, Lauren and Ryan Leslie both of Traverse City; five nieces; and two nephews. She was a loving wife, mother, sister and friend, and will be dearly missed.

Bobbie was preceded in death by her parents, Walter and Evelyn Toms; and a sister, Shelia Lorenger.

A memorial service will be held at a later date in Onaway.

 

Warren E. VanAlstine

Warren E. VanAlstine, 59, passed away Monday, March 10, 2014 at his home in Indian River.

A memorial service will be held at a later date.

Warren was born October 9, 1954 in Onaway. He was the son of Gerry and Dorothy (Hackney) VanAlstine. Warren grew up in Onaway and graduated from Onaway High School in 1972. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force serving during the Viet Nam War.

Warren is survived by the love of his life and wife, Karen; children, Joseph (Rachel) VanAlstine of Harbor Springs, Chrystal (Beau) DePauw of Indian River, Crystal Protiva of Indian River, Jeremiah (Jessie) McQuaid of Millersburg and Raven Kelly of Kentucky; grandchildren, Alizabeth, Abigail, Cash, Becky, Austin and Jeremiah, Jr.; father, Gerry VanAlstine of Tower; sisters, Doris (Don) Chapp of Alpena and Gale Suitor of Texas; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his grandchild, Tristan Rang; and his mother, Dorothy (Hackney) Holmes.

Clifford J. Goodfellow

Clifford J. Goodfellow, 71, of Black Lake, died at Tendercare Health Center in Rogers City Monday, March 10, 2014. The son of Wilber J. and Delores (Berlin) Goodfellow, Clifford was born February 24, 1943 in Detroit. On September 10, 1966 he married Dixie Lee Davis in Troy.

Cliff is survived by his wife of more than 47 years, Dixie Goodfellow of Black Lake; his adopted daughter, Sirena Gibson (Paul Alband) and grandson, Jesse Alband, of Sterling Heights. Preceding Cliff in death were his parents.

Marian D. McLaughlin, 88, of Rogers Township, passed away March 7, 2014 at Rogers City Tendercare.

She was born September 13, 1925 in Seattle, Washington to Walter and Wilhemetta (Miller) Butterworth. On March 4, 1944 she married Daniel McLaughlin in Seattle.

Mrs. McLaughlin is survived by her husband, Daniel; a son, Daniel B. (Clo) Leraul of Concord, California; two grandsons, Daniel Jacob (Soraya Manzor Rivas) Leraul of Davis, California and Bret Leraul of Ithaca, New York.

She was preceded in death by her daughter, Claudia Hill.

Friends may visit at the Beck Funeral Home Friday, March 14, from 4 until 7 p.m. Visitation will resume Saturday at Calvary Bible Church in Rogers City from 10 a.m. through time of funeral at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Jeff Ryan officiating.

Interment will take place at Grand Lawn Cemetery in Detroit.

George A. “Speed” Feldhiser, 89, of Rogers City passed away March 7, 2014 at Rogers City Tendercare.

He was born May 31, 1924 in Rogers City to George and Leona (McLalin) Feldhiser.

Mr. Feldhiser is survived by a sister, Esther Schaedig of Rogers City; and a brother, Andrew (Jean) Feldhiser of Florida; and many nieces and nephews.

Mary Ann Green, 58, of Petoskey and her son, Christopher Alan Jay, 36, of Posen died January 29, 2014 in a car accident near Johannesburg.

Mary Ann was born September 8, 1955 to Leona Green of and the late Archie Green. She is survived by her mother, Leona Green; two sons, Timothy of Alpena and Jeremy of Petoskey.

Christopher Alan Jay was born August 2, 1977. He is survived by two brothers, Timothy and Jeremy; his father, John; and his grandmother, Leona Green.

Mary Ann Green, 58, of Petoskey and her son, Christopher Alan Jay, 36, of Posen died January 29, 2014 in a car accident near Johannesburg.

Mary Ann was born September 8, 1955 to Leona Green of and the late Archie Green. She is survived by her mother, Leona Green; two sons, Timothy of Alpena and Jeremy of Petoskey.

Christopher Alan Jay was born August 2, 1977. He is survived by two brothers, Timothy and Jeremy; his father, John; and his grandmother, Leona Green.

Myrtelbelle “Myrt” Ruth Modrzynski, 94, of Alpena, died Sunday March 9, 2014 at Tendercare Cheboygan.

Surviving are four children, Donald (Gail) Modrzynski of Romulus, Gerald (Patsy) Modrzynski of Alpena, Susan (Edward) Roznowski of Cheboygan and Margo (Thomas) Wasilenski of Alpena; 11 grandchildren, Kimberley, Rebecca, Donald II, Todd, Cary, Scot, Paul, Troy, Wendy, Wayne and Keith; 26 great-grandchildren; nine great-great-grandchildren; three sisters, Eileen Johnson of Rogers City, June (Henry) Keebler of Metz, and Jackie (Ed) Kapala of Presque Isle; a sister-in-law, Eleanor Wirgau of Rogers City; two brothers-in-law, Eugene Modrzynski of Rogers City and Donald Routley of Palm Coast, Florida.

Visitation was at McWilliams Funeral Home, Alpena Wednesday from 2-8 p.m. with a rosary service at 6:30 p.m. and a parish wake service at 7 p.m.  Visitation will continue today (Thursday, March 13) at St. Mary Catholic Church from 10 a.m. until the time of the Mass of Christian burial at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Richard Schaeffer officiating. Interment will be at Holy Cross Cemetery.  Memorial donations may be made to St. Mary Catholic Church.
