Ronald ‘Todd’ Hoedel

Ronald “Todd” Hoedel, 47, of Millersburg, died at home Wednesday March 19, 2014 after a long, courageous battle with cancer. Todd leaves his wife, Michele L. Hoedel and children, Megan and Dylan Hoedel, all of Millersburg; his son, Andrew Hoedel of Atlanta; parents, Ron and Judy Hoedel; a sister, Debbie (Brian) O’Meara; and a brother, Jeff Hoedel, all of Millersburg. Also surviving Todd are his in-laws, Rob and Wanda Boughner of Millersburg; a sister-in-law, Chrissy Northrop of Tower; nieces, Hayley O’Meara and Lauren Northrop; nephews, Trevor O’Meara, and Gage and Garrett Northrop; as well as his cousin and best friend, Brett (Janine) Rachuba.

Todd was born February 20, 1967 in Rogers City to Ronald L. and Judy (Rachuba) Hoedel.

A memorial service and celebration of Todd’s life will be held at the Millersburg Community Hall. The date and time were pending at the time of publication. Todd’s final resting place will be in Millersburg at Riverside Cemetery. Donations to honor the memory of Todd Hoedel should be made to his family. Charles Stoyka of Winter Haven, Florida passed away Thursday, March 13, 2014 from respiratory failure. He was 87. A native of Cleveland, Ohio, born December 19, 1926, Charles moved to Winter Haven in 1988 from Ft. Lauderdale, Florida.

Charles was predeceased by his first wife Barbara Stoyka. He is survived by his loving wife Joan Stoyka of Winter Haven; his sons: Charles Stoyka of Lakeland, Florida, Daniel Stoyka (Theresa) and Thomas Stoyka (Elizabeth) of Winter Haven; his daughter Patricia Timbrook (Tim) of Gwinn; his stepson Gregory Filipowicz (Chris) of Bloomfield Hills; his brother, Mike Stoyka of Warren; 10 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

Visitation was Sunday at Oak Ridge Funeral Care in Winter Haven. The funeral Mass was Monday at St. Nectarios Russian Orthodox Church in Lakeland. Interment will be at Auburndale Memorial Park. Rlene (Lajiness) Everingham passed away October 1, 2013. She was born March 31, 1929.

She is survived by her husband, Lyle; children Nancy (Thomas) Hensley, Mark (Betsy) Everingham and Christine (Jeffrey, deceased) Tucker; many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, siblings, in-laws. She was also an aunt to many nieces and nephews.

A memorial Mass in her honor will be conducted March 31 at 10 a.m. at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, 7770 Beechmont Avenue, Cincinnati, Ohio.

Virginia Helen Karsten, 86, of Rogers City, passed away March 17, 2014 at Orchard Adult Fostesr Care Home. She was born August 29, 1927 in Rogers City to Michael and Pelagia (Chrzan) Yarch.

Mrs. Karsten is survived by four children, Peggy (Norman) Kowalski, Patricia (Edward) Brege and Dr. Mark (Melissa) Karsten all of Rogers City, and Jeanine (Paul) Hein of Ludington; 10 grandchildren, Brandi Tulgestke, Kaeli (Brad) Dufresne, Tyler (Kaelie Fairbanks) Kowalski, Matthew (Becky) Brege, Kristi Brege, Jessica Muller, Bret Karsten, Chad Karsten, Joel (Jessica) Hein and Andy (Kelly Foote) Hein; 11 great-grandchildren, Sydney and Trevor Tulgestke, Lily and Eli Dufresne, Mallory Kowalski, Jacob and Isaac Brege, Caleb Karsten, Elise Muller, and Logan and Trent Hein; a sister, Florence Bull of Bridgeport; in-laws, Robert (Lucille) Karsten, James (Geraldine) Karsten, Chester (Brenda) Karsten, Dolores Karsten, Lila Burkness, Margaret (John) Carnali, Nancy (James) Klingshirn and Jean (Richard) Warwick; several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews; as well as many other friends and relatives.

Friends may visit at the Beck Funeral Home Friday from 3 until 8 p.m. where the Daughters of Isabella will lead the rosary at 6:30 p.m. followed the parish wake service at by 7 p.m. conducted by the Rev. Sylvestre Obwaka.

Visitation will resume Saturday at St. Ignatius Catholic Church from 9 a.m. until time of Mass at 10 a.m. with the Rev. Sylvestre Obwaka celebrating.

Interment will take place at Mt. Calvary Catholic Cemetery next to her beloved Archie.

David Wisniewski, 77, of Grand Lake passed away peacefully at home March 25, 2014.

He was born October 23, 1936 in Posen to John and Josephine (Kaszubowski) Wisniewski.

Mr. Wisniewski is survived by his wife, Virginia; two children, Doreen Wisniewski of Toledo, Ohio and Michael (Kimberly) Wisniewski of Posen; three grandchildren, Kristina, Matthew and Mark; four brothers, John (Marlene), Jim (Barb), Jerry (Florence) and Norman (Pat); three sisters, Polly (Larry) Anderson, Connie (Larry) Hincka and Doris (Walter) Kozdron; a sister-in-law, Karen Wisniewski; and many nieces and nephews.

Friends may visit at the Beck Funeral Home Friday from 3 until 8 p.m. with rosary at 6:30 p.m. followed by the parish prayer service at 7 p.m. Visitation will resume Saturday at St. Casimir Catholic Church from 9 a.m. until time of Mass at 10 a.m. with the Rev. Arthur Duchnowicz and Fr. Stan Bereda officiating.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Hospice of the Sunrise Shore.

Betty Louise Kowalewsky, 87, of Metz Township, passed away at home on March 20, 2014. She was born May 31, 1926 in Detroit to Lawrence and Louise (Dover) Gitschlag.

Mrs. Kowalewsky is survived by four children, Warren of Rogers City, Laurie (David) Laughbaum of Pellston, Jane Seidler of Pellston and Janet (John) Clearwood of Alpena; 11 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Beck Funeral Home will announce a complete obituary in the spring when the date is set for her memorial service.

Robert Luebke

Robert Luebke, 93, of Rogers City passed away Wednesday evening March 19, 2014 at Rogers City Tendercare.

Son of Emil and Caroline (Carrie) Kollen Luebke was born February 4, 1921 in Metz. Robert was baptized and confirmed at St. Peter Lutheran Church in Metz.

Surviving are his wife, Althea; children, Allen of Metz, Dawn (Ronald) Strzelecki of Hawks, Timothy (Brenda Richards), adopted children Leo and Annette (James) Cherrette of Rogers City; 14 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and one due any day.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Herman and Erwin; a sister, Anna Hilla and; a great-granddaughter, Estrella.

Visitation was Friday, March 21, at Hentkowski Funeral Home with a prayer service that evening.

Visitation continued Saturday at Peace Lutheran Church until the funeral service with the Rev. J. Derek Riddle officiating.

Memorials are suggested to Peace Lutheran Church or charity of friend’s choice.

Dorothy Ann Rygwelski, 82, formerly of Presque Isle, died Tuesday, March 11, 2014 at Turning Brook Retirement home in Alpena.

The daughter of George and Alice (Enger) Hein was born March 9, 1932 in Detroit.

She is survived by three daughters, Barbara (Michael) Freudenmuth of Presque Isle, Dr. Janis Rygwelski (Joseph DeFors) of DeWitt and Nancy Rygwelski of St. Johns; two sons, Joseph (Carol) of Auburn and Michael (Sheri) of Bay City; nine grandchildren, Krista (James) Taylor, Derek Freudenmuth, Alexis (Carl) Horst, Damon Siefert, and Sarah, Anthony, Matthew, Timothy and Ryan Rygwelski; four great-grandchildren, Tommy, Chloe and William Taylor, and Gwen Horst; two sisters, Virginia (Ray) Foster and Kathleen Muszynski; a brother, George Hein; and many nieces and nephews.

Visitation was at the Brietzke Funeral Home Monday, March 17, for memory sharing and fellowship. Visitation resumed Tuesday at St. Casimir Catholic Church until the memorial Mass with the Rev. Arthur Duchnowicz officiating.

Memorials are suggested to St. Casimir Catholic Church, Presque Isle District Library or the Salvation Army in memory of Dorothy Rygwelski.

Doris Rose Dodge

Doris Rose Dodge, 83, of Long Lake, was called home by her Lord March 23, 2014 at Alpena Regional Medical Center.

She was born December 3, 1930 in Petersville to Otto and Fannie (Bredow) Maerz.

Mrs. Dodge is survived by her husband, Cliff; four children, Carol (Bob) Dodge-Grochowski of Alpena, Tim Dodge of Long Lake, Steve (Charlotte Yu) Dodge of Ann Arbor and Amy Dodge of Long Lake; five grandchildren, Carl (Stacy) Lukitsch, Grant Lukitsch, Alison Lukitsch, Emily Dodge and Nathaniel Dodge; two great-grandchildren, Chance and Cooper; and a brother, Karl (Jane) Maerz of Macomb.

She was preceded in death by two siblings, Marcie Burdett and Don Maerz.

Friends may visit at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Alpena today (Thursday, March 27) from 10 a.m. through time of her memorial service at 11 a.m. with the Rev. James Erickson officiating. Inurnment will take place at Memorial Park Cemetery in Rogers City.

Joseph Leonard Kruczynski

Joseph Leonard Kruczynski , 87, of Metz Township, passed March 20, 2014 at home.

He was born May 30, 1926 in Metz Township to Joseph and Mary (Kaszubowski) Kruczynski.

Mr. Kruczynski is survived by his wife of 61 years, Imogene; four children, Wayne (Kathy) Kruczynski of Posen, Frank (Linda) Kruczynski of Rogers City, Debra (Wayne) Krajniak of Posen and Gary Kruczynski of Posen; nine grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren; a brother, Casmir (Mary) Kruczynski; two sisters, Beatrice Pochmara and Josephine Lijewski; several nieces and nephews; and his faithful friend Mitzie.

Visitation was at St. Dominic Catholic Church Saturday until time of Mass with the Rev. Arthur Duchnowicz officiating.

Burial will take place at St. Dominic Catholic Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the family of Joseph Kruczynski. Arrangements are in care of the Beck Funeral Home.

Rodney Rauh

Rodney Rauh, 65, of Onaway, died at home Monday, March 24, 2014 after a seven-year battle with lung cancer. The son of Glenn and Pauline (Booth) Rauh, Rodney was born in Detroit October 21, 1948. He married Brenda J. Sampson in St. Clair Shores May 9, 1970 and in 1977 they moved to Onaway.

Surviving are Rodney’s wife of 44 years, Brenda Rauh of Onaway; a daughter, Kimberly (Jerry) Beneke of Clare; and four special grandchildren, Christian, Abigail and Alexandrea Beneke, all of Clare, and Haley Star Rauh, along with her brothers, Kaleb and Michael, all of Onaway. Rodney also leaves a sister, Colleen Worley of California; and his mother-in-law, Kathleen Sampson of St. Clair Shores. He was preceded in death by his son, Kyle Rauh in 2011; and his parents.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, March 29 from 11 a.m. until the time of the funeral service beginning at 1 p.m. at the Chagnon Funeral Home in Onaway.

Donald W. LaLonde

Donald W. “Don” LaLonde, 81, of Ocqueoc, died Wednesday March 26, 2014 at the Hospice House in Cheboygan. Don was born August 14, 1932 to William F. and Janette (McLean) LaLonde in Rogers City and was a lifelong resident of the area.

Surviving him in death are his loving wife, Gail N. LaLonde of Ocqueoc; four children, Renee (Robert) LaLonde Houchen of West Branch, Kurt (Lori) LaLonde of Onaway, Don LaLonde II of Onaway and Dan (Sara) LaLonde of Ocqueoc; his grandchildren, Wesley and Jakob Houchen of West Branch, Jim (Samantha) and Andrew LaLonde of Onaway, Debbie and Lindsey LaLonde also of Onaway, and Aaron and Ashley LaLonde; and great-grandchildren, Lesley and Justin LaLonde, and Jaxson Houchen. Don is also survived by five sisters and two brothers.

There will be visitation today (Friday, March 28) from 4-8 p.m. at the Chagnon Funeral Home in Onaway with a wake service at 7 p.m. to be followed by a rosary prayer. Funeral Mass will be held Saturday, March 29, at 9 a.m. at the St. Paul Catholic Church in Onaway.

Don’s burial will take place later this spring at the Trinity Lutheran Cemetery in Ocqueoc.

Michael L. Glentz Sr, 63, lifelong resident of Rogers City passed away Thursday, March 27, 2014 at Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit.

The son of John and Dorothy (Kreft) Glentz, he was born June 19, 1950.

Mr. Glentz is survived by his five children, Stacie (Brian) Bishop of Potterville, Michael (Kristin) of Harbor Springs, Robert of Big Rapids, Shannon (Nick) Guerra residents of Phoenix, serving in Alabama and John of Rogers City; 12 grandchildren; and two sisters, Valerie (Dave) Elowski and Cindy (John) Lyberg.

A funeral and prayer service was held at Beck Funeral Home Tuesday, followed by a Veterans of Foreign Wars full military honors ceremony.

Memorials may be directed to the family of Michael to be made to a charity that will be designated at a later date.

Donna Lou Whaley, 76, of Alpena, formerly of Onaway and Rogers City passed away Wednesday, March 26, 2014 at Alpena Regional Medical Center.

Surviving are three sons, Danny (Hattie) Whaley of Alpena, Jeffery Whaley of Harrisville and Timothy (Diane) Whaley of Alpena; two daughters, Elvinna Sherman of Millersburg and Anita Sherman of Alpena; 13 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; three brothers, Lawrence (Judy) Shepard of Alpena, Richard Shepard of Grand Ledge and Henry (Laura) Shepard of Grand Ledge; and two sisters, Marian Bowers of Stanwood and Maggie Shaw of Onaway.

A memorial service will be held at the Lighthouse Baptist Church (formerly the Long Lake Chapel), 7420 U.S.-23 Hwy. North, Alpena Saturday, April 5, at 1 p.m. Donna’s final resting place will be at Hillcrest Cemetery in Onaway.

Alice Kaiser, 91, of Jenison, went to be with her Lord Monday, March 24, 2014.  A memorial service will be held later with burial in Rogers City.

Alice was born to the late Joseph and Mary Nowak, August 14, 1922 in Rogers City.

Alice is survived by her sons, Ronald and wife Darlene of College Station, Texas, John and wife Laurie of Eagle, Wisconsin; daughters, Mary and husband Donald Burns, of Coatesville, Pennsylvania and Nancy and husband Michael DesRocher of Hudsonville; nine grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that donations be made to Aaron DesRocher Scholarship Fund at Grand Valley State University, P.O. Box 1945, Allendale, MI, 49501-9799.

Jerry Leonard “Red” Wolgast, 72, of Ocqueoc Township, passed away April 1, 2014 at McLaren Northern Michigan.

He was born February 7, 1942 in Ocqueoc Township to Leonard and Evelyn (Ganske) Wolgast.

Mr. Wolgast is survived by his wife, Grace; four children, Tammy (Bill) Jamieson of Casper, Wyoming, Arthur (Kelly) Wolgast of Ocqueoc, Jerry “Ben” (Shelia) Wolgast of Ocqueoc and Ron Ramus of Ocqueoc; eight grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; mother, Evelyn Wolgast; and three siblings, Juanita (Neil) Sorgenfrei, Diane (Larry) Schaedig and Lenny Wolgast.

Friends may visit at the Beck Funeral Home on Saturday from 10 a.m. through time of his memorial service at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Eric Voigt officiating.

Lawrence J. Timmins Jr., known as “Larry” or “Tim”, 73, of Onaway, formerly of Riverview, died at McLaren Northern Michigan hospital in Petoskey Sunday, April 6, 2014. The son of Lawrence and Ann Marie (Maletich) Timmins, Larry was born July 10, 1940 in Monroe.

Surviving Larry are his wife of 29 years, Andrea Timmins of Onaway; two sons, Edwin Shiver of Cheboygan and Andrew (Janette) Timmins of Onaway; and two very special granddaughters, Jada Ann Marie and Adelai Louise. Larry also leaves three sisters, Donna (Edwin) Baranowski of Dundee, Carol Timmins of Monroe and Mary (Stan) Zdeb of Arizona; two brothers, Thomas (Judy) Timmins of Grosse Ile and Gerald (Kathy) Timmins of Roscommon; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his son, Timmy Timmins; brother, Keith Brewer; and his parents.

Cremation arrangements were in care of the Chagnon Funeral Home. A memorial gathering will be held downstate at a later date. Larry’s final resting place will be in Monroe at Roselawn Memorial Park.

She is survived by two sons, James Cain of Flint and Doyle Buckner of Onaway; a daughter, Kelly Shappell of Flint; 28 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Elizabeth Spencer of North Dakota. Visitation will be at the United Brethren of Christ Church, 6259 Richfield Rd., Flint on Saturday from 8 a.m. to noon followed by the funeral service.
