Ronald Wayne Ramus

Ronald Wayne Ramus, 50, of Ocqueoc, died unexpectedly Monday December, 14, 2015 at his home. The son of Gerald Wayne and Judith Ann (Chodera) Ramus, Ron was born in Detroit, Michigan March 14, 1965 and moved to Ocqueoc when he was 17 years old.

Surviving Ron is his daughter, Macy Ann Ramus of Cheboygan; his companion and best friend, Lynn Wallis of Rudyard; brothers, Rob (Becky) Ramus of Rogers City and Steve (Marcy) Ramus of Grandville; and his nieces and nephews, Jade, Jasmine, Fischer and Lennox; as well as many friends.

Ron’s family received friends at the Chagnon Funeral Home Thursday December 17 until the time of the memorial service. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in memory of Ron to Robert Ramus for the benefit of Ron’s daughter, Macy Ramus.

Susan M. Ziegler

Susan M. Ziegler, 60, of Cheboygan passed away after a long battle against cancer Wednesday, December 16, 2015 at her home surrounded by her family. She was born November 21, 1955 in Wyandotte, the daughter of Carl and Kathleen (Malay) Merrick. On May 8, 1976 in Onaway, Sue married Jim Ziegler, who survives.

Besides her husband Jim, Sue is survived by her two daughters, Carrie (Adam) Thomas of Cedarburg, Wisconsin and Amy (Jeremy) Chambers of Petoskey; her mother, Kathy Merrick of Cheboygan; three brothers, her twin, Michael (Jill) Merrick of Rogers City, David (Kim) Merrick of Texas and Dr. Robert (Lori) Merrick of Cheboygan; four grandchildren, Bennett, Annabelle, Alice and Henry; her sister-in-law, Rhonda (Michael) Finn of Cheboygan; and her brother-in-law, David (Janet) Ziegler of Williamston. She was preceded in death by her father.

Visitation was Friday, December 18, at the Nordman-Christian Funeral Home. The funeral Mass was celebrated Saturday, December 19, at St. Mary/St. Charles Catholic Church with the family greeting friends one hour prior to the service. The Rev. Paul Megge officiated. Mark A. Kondratko

Mark A. Kondratko, 55, of Onaway, died peacefully in his sleep at home December 14, 2015.  The son of Edward and Elaine (Grabenstein) Kondratko, Mark was born in Detroit June 9, 1960 and graduated from Onaway High School in 1978.

Surviving Mark is his mother and stepfather, Elaine and Jon Lyons of Cheboygan; sisters, Donna O’Neill of Alpena and Linda (Rick) Barton of Queensland, Australia; brother Patrick (Cheri) Kondratko of Onaway; as well as his nieces and nephew, twins, LCPL Joseph and Jessica Kondratko, Alexandria Kondratko, Alaina Maiani and Kristen Maiani.  Mark was preceded in death by his father, Edward Kondratko in May of 2007.

Louis “Louie” R. LeCureux

Louis “Louie” R. LeCureux, 89, of Onaway, died Saturday December 19, 2015 at Hospice House in Cheboygan. The son of Ernest and Mary (Craig) LeCureux, Louis was born in Caledonia Township March 1, 1926 and as a young boy moved to Millersburg.

Surviving Louie are his sons, Edmond LeCureux of Cheboygan, Larry (Karen) and Bruce (Sarah) LeCureux, both of Onaway; daughter, Lois (Bill) Lindemulder of Grand Haven; as well as 14 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.  Louie was preceded in death by his wife, Barbara; one brother and two sisters.

Louie’s family received friends Wednesday, December 23, until the time of the memorial service at the Chagnon Funeral Home.

The Rev. Clyde Carter, a friend of Louie’s will officiate and Onaway Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5857 will have military honors. Louie’s final resting place will be at Hillcrest Cemetery in Onaway.

Mabel A. Vincent

Mabel A. Vincent, 97, of Indian River passed away Monday December 21, 2015 at Hancock Haven, Cheboygan.

Surviving are three sons, Roy A. (Yvonne) Vincent of Indian River, Bob (Bonnie) Vincent of Afton and Greg Vincent of Alanson; two daughters, Sharon (Jim) Potter of Gaylord and Judy (Larry) Hope of Indian River; two granddaughters; as well as many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; a sister Jean Barrette of Cheboygan; and a brother, Gary (Ruth) Sova of Fowlerville.

Visitation will be Tuesday, December 29, from 10 a.m. until the time of the funeral service beginning at 11 a.m. at the Cross in the Woods, Indian River.

Burial will be at Oak Hill Cemetery, Indian River.

 

Alice Louise Ganske

Alice Louise Ganske, 86, of Rogers City passed away December 28, 2015 at Alpena Regional Medical Center.

She was born August 10, 1929 in Millersburg to William and Marian (Peacock) Arkwood.

Mrs. Ganske is survived by six sons, James (Maryanne), John, Mike (Lydia), Terry, Bruce (Diane) and Neil; two daughters, Mary (Paul) Altman and Patsy (Ken) Barnett; stepson, Roger Conklin; companion, Hugh Donely; 17 grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; many great-great-grandchildren; and two sisters, her twin Esther Parker and Erma Crooks.

Friends may visit at the Beck Funeral Home today (Thursday) from 4 until 8 p.m. Visitation will continue at the funeral home Friday from noon through time of funeral service at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Charles Schultz officiating.

Interment will take place at the Riverside Cemetery in Millersburg.

Bennadict Clarence Domke

Bennadict Clarence Domke, 87, of Ocqueoc, passed December 22, 2015 at Golden Beach Manor, Ocqueoc. He was born November 7, 1928 in Ocqueoc to Albert and Anna (Ostrofski) Domke.

Benedict is survived by four sons, Daryl of Grand Rapids, Danny (Gwyn) of Hubbard Lake, Roger (Mary) of Findlay, Ohio and Wayne (Cuizhen) of Park City, Utah; a daughter, Shelli Kay Domke-Richter of LaGrange, Kentucky; 13 grandchildren, Alisha, Jason, Dannielle, Jessica, Michael, Alyssa, Lindsey, Mitchell, Ryan, Lawson, Rachel, Westen and Lilly; a great-grandson, Benjaman; and one sibling, Otis (Shirley) Domke.

Friends and family visited at the Beck Funeral Home December 29. The funeral was December 30, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Ocqueoc with the Rev. Lloyd Ziebarth officiating.

Interment will take place at Trinity Lutheran Cemetery beside his longtime wife Caroline Margaret (Artz) Domke ~ now they are both singing and dancing with Jesus in heaven.

John Joseph Ciarkowski

John Joseph Ciarkowski, 83, of Krakow Township passed away December 25, 2015 at home. He was born December 26, 1931 in Posen to Stanley and Bernice (Dombrowski) Ciarkowski.

Mr. Ciarkowski is survived by his wife, Patricia; six children, Michael (Jane) of Kentucky, Danny (Ketty) of California, Joyce (Jim) Smith of Oregon, Sue (Doug) Stewart of Whitmore Lake, Karl (Pam) of Posen and Chris of Grand Lake; 15 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; two sisters, Bernice (Walter) Kelly and Verna Kaszubowski; and a brother, Bernard (Florence).

Inurnment and military honors will take place at Great Lakes National Cemetery in the spring.

Edith A. Luttman

Edith A. Luttman, affectionately known as “Edy”, 79, of Onaway, died December 25, 2015 at Tendercare Health Center in Rogers City.  Born in Dearborn January 5, 1936, Edith was the daughter of Harry and Ruth (Neimeyer) Brown.

Surviving Edy is her loving husband, Norman Luttman of Onaway; son, Lawrence Luttman, also of Onaway; daughter, Linda (Ken) Amstutz of Pinckney; two grandchildren, Andy and Jessica Amstutz; and two great-grandchildren.  Edy was preceded in death by her sister, Marie Burk; and three brothers, Wally, Ed and Harry “Nelson” Brown.

Edith’s family will received friends at the Onaway Seventh-Day Adventist Church Sunday January 3, 2016 from 10 a.m. until the time of the memorial service beginning at 11 a.m.  Elder Jim Howard and Elder Michael Szynkowski will officiate.  Edith’s final resting place will be at Hillcrest Cemetery in Onaway.

Adeline Ann Wiltshire

Adeline Ann Wiltshire, 97, of Onaway, died Sunday, December 27, 2015 at Nash Manor in Onaway. Born March 17, 1918 at the family farm in Ocqueoc, Adeline was one of 12 children born to Edward and Augusta (Hoeft) Rieger.

 

Surviving Adeline is her husband of 50 years, Donald J. Wiltshire of Onaway; a son, Mark (Mary) Heller of South Bend, Indiana; a daughter, Raye (Bobby) McMurray of Winnsboro, Louisiana; a stepson, Lester (Emma) Kooman of Onaway; as well as four grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Visitation was held at the Chagnon Funeral Home Wednesday with an Eastern Star service beginning at 7 p.m. Visitation will resume at the United Methodist Church in Onaway today, (Thursday) from 10 a.m. until the time of the funeral service beginning at 11 a.m. The Rev. Carmen Cook will officiate. Adeline’s final resting place will be in Onaway at Elmwood Cemetery. Douglas Frederick Merchan

Douglas Frederick Merchant passed away December 11, 2015 due to complications from Huntington’s disease. He is survived by his wife, Tillie Merchant; and his four children, Doug Merchant, Tammera Bollman, Kristi Merchant and Rick Merchant. He will be remembered greatly for his compassion and consideration towards his employees and loved ones.

The memorial service will be held January 2, 2016 at 11 a.m. at the Community of Christ Church in Onaway. Graveside will be at Riverside Cemetery in Millersburg at 3 p.m. following.

Westley Samuel Hayner, 56, of Onaway died Friday January 1, 2016 at his home.

Surviving are his parents, Lynn and JoAnn Hayner of Onaway; four sisters, Deborah (Jerry) Townsend of Hesperia, Naomie (Art) Rought of Meriden, Illinois, Jessie (Tony) Hoover of Minooka, Illinois and Julie (Timothy) Lewis of Sheridan, Illinois; and many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.

Visitation will be Sunday, January 10, from 4 p.m.–8 p.m. at the Onaway Seventh-Day Adventist Church in Onaway.  Funeral service will be Monday, January 11, at 11 a.m. at the Onaway Seventh-Day Adventist Church.

Interment will be at Hillcrest Cemetery, Onaway.

 

Jean Anne Odle

Jean Anne Odle, 90, of Hawks passed away at home January 2, 2016.

She was born December 12, 1925 in Detroit to Glen and Sylvia (Shanklin) Winans.

Mrs. Odle is survived by her daughter, Judi Frank of Hawks.

Earl Scott Hackney

Earl Scott Hackney, 70, of Onaway, died unexpectedly December 30, 2015 at home. Known as Scott, he was the son of Mack and Priscilla (Stillner) Hackney and was born in Mouthcard, Kentucky January 25, 1945.

Surviving Scott are his daughters, Tammy (Pete) Digregorio of Roanoke, Virginia, Kathy (Joel) Anderson of Belleville and Jamie (Charles) Wade of Raleigh, North Carolina; sons, Scott Hackney Jr. of Michigan Center and Rick Hackney of Las Vegas, Nevada; as well as 10 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

It was Scott’s wish that there be no memorial service or funeral following his death. Scott’s final resting place is at Michigan Memorial Park in Flat Rock. Condolences may be shared with Scott’s family at www.chagnonfh.com.

Boyd Clayton Southwell, 77, a lifelong resident of Afton, died Saturday, January 2, 2016 at Tendercare of Gaylord. The son of Clayton and Cora (Shell) Southwell, Boyd was born in Cheboygan on August 15, 1938.

Surviving Boyd is his wife, Gail, of Afton; sons, Boyd “Clayton” (Judy) of Afton, Michael “Mick” (Keli) of Cheboygan, Scott (Ross) of Vancouver, Washington, David (Natasha) of Wolverine, and Alan (Bethany) of Afton; daughters, Carla Blanchard of Onaway, Becky (Jim) Goral of Petoskey and Debra (Robert) Layman of Indian River; as well as 22 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.  Boyd also leaves his sister, Coralee Porter of Onaway; special friends, Mike, Mary and Roger Hawley of Afton; and many nieces and nephews.

Visitation was at the Chagnon Funeral Home in Onaway Tuesday January 5, until the time of the funeral service with the Rev. Gordon Evoy officiating. Boyd’s final resting place will be in Afton at Walker Township Cemetery.

Bruce Wayne Taylor, 76, of Belknap Township passed away at home December 30, 2015.

He was born May 5, 1939 in Hagensville to Sidney and Elva (Heslip) Taylor.

 

Surviving are his wife, Connie; two sons, Darl (Mary Jo) Taylor of Cheboygan and Brad Taylor of Rogers City; a daughter, Violet (Ed) LaPeer of Afton; two stepsons, Robert and Michael Piechan of Alpena; seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; a sister, Kathryn Berg of Hawks; two brothers, Robert Taylor of Bad Axe and Ralph Taylor of Rogers City.

Memorial visitation will take place at Faith Lutheran Church in Hawks Tuesday, January 5, from 9:30 a.m. through time of his memorial service at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Dr. Jack D. Ferguson officiating.

Inurnment will take place at Hope Lutheran Cemetery in the spring.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Faith Lutheran Church Handicap Entrance Fund or Hospice of the Sunrise Shore in memory Bruce Taylor.

Patricia Ann Scully

Patricia Ann Scully, 82, of Posen passed away December 30, 2015 at Orchard Care Home.

She was born April 11, 1933 in Green Bay, Wisconsin to Wayne and Betty Hall.

Mrs. Scully is survived by four children, Barb (Pat) Kowalski of Grand Lake, Kathy Henderson of Kentucky, Richard (Brenda) Mee of California and Steven (Debby) Scully of Livonia; nine grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and a great-great grandson.

A celebration of life will take place in Livonia at a later date.

Inurnment will take place at Glen Eden Cemetery in Livonia.

Henry Leo Romel

Henry Leo Romel was born at 4:56 a.m. and passed away peacefully at 7:30 p.m. December 26, 2015 at William Beaumont Hospital in Royal Oak.

Henry is survived by his parents, Timothy Romel and Yolanda Harrison of Onaway; grandparents, Bernice Romel of Rogers City, and Ray and Maria Harrison of Sterling Heights; great-grandfather, Ray Harrison of Holly; and many aunts, uncles and cousins.

Although our Little Angel Henry was only with us for 14 hours he was deeply loved and will be sorely missed. Visitation will be at noon January 16, at St. Casimir Catholic Church in Posen, vestibule, followed by the memorial Mass at 1 p.m. officiated by the Rev. Art Duchnowicz. Burial will follow in the spring at St. Casimir Catholic Cemetery.

Aram Edward “Pete” Ganske

Aram Edward “Pete” Ganske, 82, of Rhodes, formerly of Ocqueoc, passed away December 29, 2015 at St. Mary’s Medical Center in Saginaw. He was born May 4, 1933 in Ocqueoc to William and Caroline (Wemert) Ganske.

Mr. Ganske is survived by his wife, Dorothy; two daughters, Bettina (Emerson) Youmans of Florida and Annette Ganske of Rhodes; two grandchildren, Trevor Aram Youmans of Beaverton and Shaina Lee “Missy” Youmans of Florida; four siblings, Evelyn Wolgast, Erwin “Pep” Ganske, Elaine Orcutt and Carol (Larry) Brownell.

Visitation was at the Beck Funeral Home Friday and resumed at Trinity Lutheran Church in Ocqueoc Township Saturday through time of funeral with the Rev. Kurt Eichinger officiating.

Interment followed at the Trinity Lutheran Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Trinity Lutheran Church, c/o Donald Matthews, 4512 North Ocqueoc Road, Millersburg, Michigan 49759.

Woodrow J. Veihl

Woodrow J. Veihl, 96, lifelong resident of Tower, died at home Tuesday December 29, 2015.  Known to everyone as “Woody”, he was the son of Carl and Louise (Latsch) Veihl and was born November 8, 1919 in Tower.

Surviving Woody is his wife of 69 years, Arla Veihl of Tower; four sons, Gary (Marsha) of Cheboygan, Brian of Tower, Randy (Benita) of Onaway and Greg (Kaarina) of Tower; seven grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

The private man that he was, it was Woody’s wish that no funeral or memorial service take place following his death. His final resting place will be in Tower at Forest Lawn Cemetery.
