Visitation was at the Beck Funeral Home Friday, February 27, from 4 p.m. through time of funeral at 5 p.m. with the Rev.  Sylvestre Obwaka officiating.

Interment will take place at Mt. Calvary Catholic Cemetery.

Owen, 90, of Seymour, Indiana, passed away Monday, March 2, 2015 at 5:35 a.m. in Schneck Medical Center, Seymour.  Elizabeth was born October 18, 1924 in Richmond, Virginia, the daughter of William and Clara (Dobbs) Redick, both of whom preceded her in death. In 1961 she married Mark B. Owen of Indianapolis, He also preceded her in death.

Beloved husband and father, devoted grandfather and father-in-law, eminent scientist, superb raconteur and conversationalist, and good friend and colleague, Nicholas Alexander Matwiyoff quietly passed at home Saturday, February 21, 2015.

His boyhood was spent in Rogers City.  He earned his Bachelor of Science degree in chemistry from Michigan Technological University in 1959 and received his master’s and doctorate. at University of Illinois, Champagne/Urbana graduating in 1962.

Nick is survived by his wife of 52 years, Janet, his son Gregory N. Matwiyoff, MD Commander, Medical Corps, U.S. Navy, daughter-in-law, Shannon Matwiyoff, the lights of his life grandchildren, Cassidy and Nicholas, all of San Diego; the cousins he was raised with as a brother, Yuldine Bellmore, of Rogers City, Delphine Budreau (Frank) of Kennebunk, Maine, Delbert Jachcik of Detroit; and his brother-in-law, David K. Hogberg Ph.D. (Patricia) of Marshall.

Irene Elizabeth Crank, 72, of Burton, passed away Saturday, February 21, 2015 at her daughter’s home. Funeral services were Saturday, February 28, at Hill Funeral Home, 11723 S. Saginaw St., Grand Blanc. Interment followed at Evergreen Cemetery, Grand Blanc. Memorial donations may be made to McLaren Hospice, 1515 Cal Drive  Davison.

Irene was born March 25, 1942 in Flint, the daughter of the late Raymond and Julia (Gyorkos) Jimerfield.

Surviving are her husband of 55 years, Ron; son, Ronald Crank Jr. and wife, Deborah of Grand Blanc; daughter, Jamie Stevens and husband, Chuck of Oakland Twp.; grandchildren, Justin Tatum and finacee, Ashley Lewis, Brian Stevens, Matthew Stevens, and wife, Emily, Trevor Crank, Jordan Stevens; sister, Shirley Betts and husband, Dale; sisters and brothers-in-law, Lloyd and Pauline Schnarr, Linda and Mike Healy, Kathy Penrod, Orley Voliva; many nieces, nephews, cousins and good friends.

Steven Neil Price, 60, of Tower passed away at home March 1, 2015.

He was born September 9, 1954 in Onaway to Wayne and Catherine (Wetmore) Price.

Mr. Price is survived by his special friend of 22 years, Melinda; five children, Dustin (Kelly) Price of Kentucky, Joseph Fenstermaker of Onaway, Steven Price of Tower, Cody (Julie) Hambleton of Pontiac and Erika (Triston) Price of Tower; eight grandchildren; three siblings, Diane Taft, Kathy (John) Galvin and John (Brandy) Price; and many nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will take place at 2 p.m. today (Friday, March 6) at the Forest Township Hall with Mr. Tom Wright officiating.

Winifred Sue Konieczny, 92, of Metz passed away March 6, 2015 at Alpena Regional Medical Center.

She was born March 27, 1922 in Alpena Arthur and Abbie (Wynn) Smith. Mrs. Konieczny is survived by three sons, Jerry Hubert of Georgia, Leon (Suzanne) Konieczny of Warren and Lawrence (Donna) Konieczny of Georgia; 16 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Beck Funeral Home will announce a complete obituary in the spring when the dates are set for her visitation and Mass at St. Dominic Catholic Church.

Interment will take place at St. Dominic Catholic Cemetery following Mass.

William Otto Boyke, 81, of Gladwin passed away March 4, 2015 at the Mid-Michigan Medical Center-Midland after a brief illness with his family by his side. Mr. Boyke was born January 18, 1934 in Metz  to the late Otto and Margaret (Schroeder) Boyke.

Mr. Boyke is survived by three children, Autom (Todd) McLean of Gladwin, Crystal Boyke of Rogers City and Billy Ray Boyke of Harrison; 12 grandchildren, Angela Boyke, Tara Allen, Heith Boyke, Joseph Boyke, Josi Schuessler, Chantelle McLean, Amanda Smith, Jacob Boyke, Andrew Budnik, Isabella Smith, Dakota McLean and Kacee Boyke; three great-grandsons,; five great-granddaughters; a great-great-grandson; brothers and sisters, Delene Brege of Rogers City, Ardele Boyke of Roseville, Lois Golasinski of Roseville, Phyllis Hepburn of Alpena, Marilyn Odell of Roseville, Darhl Boyke of Warren and Virgil Boyke of Davison. Besides his parents Mr. Boyke is preceded in death by two brothers, James Boyke and Larry Boyke; and a sister Gloria Hafener.

Services for Mr. Boyke will be held at 1 p.m. March 21 at Sisson Funeral Home with the Rev. Tony Reynolds officiating. Visitation will be held from 11 a.m. until the time of service.

Alice Helen Kandow, 82, of Grand Lake passed away March 7, 2015 at home.

She was born August 21, 1932 in Rogers City to Francis and Helen (Losinski) Kowalski.

Alice is survived by five children, Noreen (Jimmie) Patterson of Swartz Creek, Randal (Suzette) Kandow of Presque Isle, Nancy (Doug) Gwinn of Flushing, Timothy (Angelica) Kandow of Howell and Todd Kandow of Manchester; 10 grandchildren; a step-granddaughter; nine great-grandchildren; three step-great-grandchildren; a great-great-granddaughter; her mother, Helen; two sisters, Geraldine (Wilbur) Konwinski of Posen and Marcia (Dave) Leach of Rogers City; a brother, Norman (Peggy) Kowalski of Rogers City; and many loving nieces and nephews.

Friends may gather at St. Casimir Catholic Church today (Thursday, March 12) from 10 a.m. through time of her memorial Mass at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Arthur Duchnowicz officiating. Posen VFW Ladies Auxiliary will offer a tribute following Mass.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Hospice of Michigan or the American Cancer Society in memory of Alice Kandow.

Thora L. Bannon, 93, of Rogers City passed from this world to the next March 5, 2015.

She was born in Rogers City and lived most of her life there and in Cedarville.  After her husband Ivan’s death in 1994 she moved to Georgia and then to Florida to be near her daughter. She had recently returned to the Rogers City area.

She is survived by her daughter, Jan Camper of Rogers City; her sisters Kathleen (Bugsie) Kowalski of Rogers City and Maggie Dunbar of Onaway; her brother, John Dennis of Onaway; three grandchildren, Jeff Camper of Fort Myers, Florida, Stephany DuVall of Atlanta, Georgia and Meliss Lenihan of West Warwick, Rhode Island; 10 great-grandchildren, Amanda Baird, Maggie, Sara, and Stephen Duvall of Atlanta, Georgia, Ashton Thomas of Chicago, Illinios, and William and Ivan Matteson, and Breahna Lenihan of West Warwick, Rhode Island, Lauren and Haley Camper of Fort Myers, Florida; a great-great-grandchild, Olivia Kate Baird of Atlanta, Georgia; nieces, Kathleen Viegelahn, Kerry Wood, Kippy Kauffman, Colleen Malec, Marlene Hanel, Katie Pahl, Bonnie Yard, Susan Frain, Lesia Farner, Penny Treadway, Kelly Darga and Debbie Dennis; and nephews, Dennis, Pat and Jeff Kowalski, Dennis, Ivan and Bill Bannon, Jerry and Jimmy Bannon , David, Earnest, and John Dennis and Rick, John and Tony Dunbar.

Gladys Katherine Kandow, 87, of Rogers City left this earth to be with the Lord Monday, March 9, 2015.

Gladys was born in Alpena May 25, 1927 to Anthony and Cecelia (Kline) Donakowski.

Gladys is survived by three children, Daniel (Nancy) Kandow of Metz, Susanne (Terry) George of Haslett and Gordon (Lori) Kandow of Lewiston, New York; 10 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren; a sister, Blanche Donakowski of Alpena; and a brother, Otto (Kay) Donakowski of Alpena.

In honor of her wishes, a private memorial service will be held at a later date. Contributions in memory of Gladys may be directed to St. Ignatius Catholic Church, Alpena Regional Medical Center, hospice or personal choice. Arrangements are under the direction of Beck Funeral Home, Rogers City.

Emogene Lillian “Emmy” Wenzel, 82, of Rogers City passed away March 4, 2015 at Rogers City Tendercare.

She was born August 4, 1932 in Rogers City to Philip and Emily (Jarvis) Kuznicki.

Emmy is survived by three sons, Gerald (Susan) of Rogers City, Danny of Rogers City and Randy of Traverse City; four grandchildren, Trisha Lail of Rogers City, Philip of Alpena, Cody (Jessie) Wenzel of Rogers City and Justin Wenzel of Rogers City; and seven siblings, Jeannie Polluch, Pat (Larry) LaHaie, Diane Struzik, Beverly (Ed) Rios, Marvin (Molly) Kuznicki, Bill (Ellen) Kuznicki and Leroy (Bert) Kuznicki.

Visitation was at the Beck Funeral Home Friday with rosary that evening.

Visitation resumed at St. Ignatius Catholic Church Saturday until time of Mass at with the Rev. Sylvestre Obwaka officiating.

Interment will take place at Memorial Park Cemetery.

Memorials may be given to St. Ignatius Catholic School in memory of Emogene Wenzel.

Kenneth E. Wells, 87, of Huron Beach passed away at home March 15, 2015.

He was born in Toronto, Canada November 22, 1927 to Merrit and Doris (Brimcombe) Wells.

Ken is survived by his wife, Sylvia; three children, Michael, Carol and Kathy; many grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; two stepchildren, Jeffrey Dunn and Claudia Guilford; and a brother, Keith.

Beck Funeral Home will announce his memorial service later in the spring when the date is set with Trinity Lutheran Church in Ocqueoc.

Inurnment and military honors will take place at Great Lakes National Cemetery following his memorial service.

John David McLennan

John David McLennan, 67, of Millersburg died at home March 12, 2015.

He was born May 4, 1947 in Millersburg to Ned and Violet (Freel) McLennan.

Mr. McLennan is survived by his wife, Chris; six children, Shawn Layman, John McLennan, Ned (Glory) McLennan, Shiloh Boonie, Taylor McLennan and Dawson McLennan; eight grandchildren; and a sister, Robin (Dale) Mix.

Friends may visit at the Rogers City Baptist Church Saturday, March 21, from noon through time of memorial service at 1 p.m. with the Rev. David Rogers officiating. Rogers City Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 607 will offer a military tribute immediately following church services.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be given to John’s family for a charity to be selected later.

Franklin “Ben” Roger Wirgau

Franklin “Ben” Roger Wirgau, 79, of Hawks passed away Friday morning March 13, 2015, at his home.

The son of Herbert and Adeline (Boyke) was born August 27, 1935 in Belknap. On September 12, 1953 he married his loving wife of 61 years Anna Mae (Dove).

Surviving are his wife, Anna Mae; a son Carl (Ruthie); two daughters, Catherine (Mark) Rygwelski and Linda Kleiber (J.K. Eldred); six grandchildren, Jeremiah (JoAnna) Wirgau, Jesse (Julie) Kleiber, Keil (Amy) Wirgau, Alicia Kleiber, Drew (Kendra) Eldred and Andrea Eldred; six great-grandchildren; two brothers, Robert and Roger; and a sister, Patricia Daily.

Arrangements are in care of Hentkowski Funeral Home and a private family service will take place at a later date.

Memorials are suggested to Hospice of the Sunrise Shore.

Beatrice E. Muszynski, 97, of Rogers City peacefully passed away at home on March 2, 2015.

She was born February 25, 1918 in Detroit to Stephen and Emma (Haske) Nowicki.

Beatrice is survived by a daughter, True (Jim Wilson) Muszynski of Mt. Pleasant; a son, Jeffrey Muszynski of Long Lake; granddaughters, Danielle Muszynski and Lauren Muszynski; a brother, Ray (Joyce) Nowicki; a son-in-law, Dr. Daniel Kane of Mt. Pleasant; many dear nieces and nephews; and several special friends and neighbors.

Visitation was at the Beck Funeral Home March 6 with rosary that evening. Visitation resumed March 7 at St. Ignatius Catholic Church until time of Mass with the Rev. Sylvestre Obwaka officiating.

Elna Selma Glosser

Elna Selma Glosser, 97, of Rogers City passed away peacefully, to be with the Lord March 14, 2015 at Rogers City Tendercare.

She was born February 1, 1918 in Belknap Township to William and Clara (Wirgau) Kreft. On January 20, 1941 she married George Glosser at Westminster Presbyterian Church.

Elna is survived by her daughter, Jane (Bill) Claus of Rogers City; two granddaughters, Kristin Jones and Kari (David) Lamb; she will also be sadly missed by her three great-grandsons, Alexander, Austin and Dawson, all of Cape Coral, Florida.

Visitation was at Peace Lutheran Church Tuesday, March 17, through time of her funeral with the Rev. J. Derek Riddle officiating.

Interment will take place at Memorial Park Cemetery.

Memorials may be given to Peace Lutheran Church or St. John Lutheran School in memory of Elna Glosser.

Arrangements are in care of the Beck Funeral Home.

Joan R. Cleaver, 78, of Onaway, formerly of Yuma, Arizona, died Tuesday, March 17, 2015 at McLaren Northern Michigan hospital in Petoskey. The daughter of Steve and Elizabeth (Deemer) Colucci, Joan was born in Broadway, New Jersey July 5, 1936.

Surviving Joan are her four sons, Harry “Hunce” Jr. (Gail) Cleaver of Pen Argyl, Pennsylvania, Johnny (Rosa) Cleaver of Gainesville, Florida, Kelly (Linda) Cleaver of Levering and Jim (Jodie) Cleaver of Onaway; 25 grandchildren; and 22 great-grandchildren. Joan was preceded in death by her husband; two sons, Stephen and Michael Cleaver; grandson, James Cleaver Jr.; and her brother, Stephen Colucci.

Visitation will be held at the Chagnon Funeral Home in Onaway today (Friday), March 20, 2015 from 11 a.m. until the time of the funeral service beginning at 1 p.m. The Rev. James Brabson will officiate. Joan’s final resting place will be at Forest Lawn Cemetery in Tower. Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider a donation in memory of Joan to the Onaway Varsity Football Team. Condolences may be shared with Joan’s family at www.chagnonfh.com.

Bastian Rye Fleming, our precious little angel passed away March 18, 2015 at Boston Children’s Hospital.

Bastian was born March 10, 2015 at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, Boston, Massachusetts.

Infant son of Tony and Ali Fleming of Hanscom Air Force Base, Massachusetts.

He is survived by two brothers, A.J. and Gavin; grandparents, Randy and Jean Wirgau of Rogers City, Joan Ozolins of Grahamsville, New York, and Mark and Nan Fleming of Rogers City; great-grandmother, Irene Fleming of Hawks; and several aunts, uncles and cousins.

Visitation will be Saturday, March 28, at St. James Lutheran Church from 2 p.m. through the time of the memorial service at 3 p.m. with the Rev. Denise Scheer officiating.

Ruth Estelle Tank, 96, of Rogers City passed away March 24, 2015 at Rogers City Tendercare.

She was born March 29, 1918 in Onaway to Wesley and Esther (Pangburn) Chapman.

Ruth and Russell were blessed with three lovely children, Marlene, Craig and Mitchell. Marlene married Donald Sisson and gave them two grandchildren, Phillip and Karen Sisson; Philip and his wife Traci gave them two great-granddaughters, Samantha and Summer. Karen and her husband Jim Jackson gave them four great-granddaughters, Karli, Marisa, Olivia and Michelle. Craig and his wife Eileen gave them three grandchildren, Eric (Leanna), Christopher and Beth Ann Tank; they gave three great-grandchildren, Anthony, Eva and Zoey. Also surviving are two sisters, Lucille “Tootie” Henning and Nancy Thompson; and many nieces and nephews.

Friends may visit at the Beck Funeral Home Saturday, March 28, from 10:30 a.m. through time of her funeral at noon with the Rev. Eric Voigt officiating.

Inurnment will take place at North Allis Township Cemetery later in the spring.

Memorials may be given to St. John Lutheran Church, Hospice of Michigan or a charity of your choice.
